Conversations, letters, phone calls, meetings — forms of connection and intimacy, or the lack thereof, explored through different modes of family communication. The program includes supportive phone conversations between a hard-working young man and his caring mother in Da Mor Ghag (The Voice of Mother); an intimate exchange between a mother and daughter about caring for an ill grandmother in Our Walls; a portrayal of miscommunication through the stressful visit of a controlling mother in The Beast; a cinematic letter about complex emotions, love, guilt, and longing for shared walks in Dear Mother; humorous fictional stories written in letters to a mother in Letters from Little Jimmy; reflections on the experiences of two generations of women within one family in the context of a personal decision about motherhood in Azkena; and a loving cinematic protest against patriarchal mechanisms that erase women from family histories in Nigeria in What’s in a Name.
