What happens when a monkey speaks with a human voice? Peter Is Back is a unique live performance in which artist Amir Yatziv enters into a dialogue with the avatar of Peter—a character created with the help of artificial intelligence, inspired by Franz Kafka’s 1917 short story A Report to an Academy. Peter—once a monkey, now a “man”—recounts his transformation, challenging the boundaries of identity, empathy, and reason.
This unusual performance blends technology, theater, and philosophical reflection. While the script is partly prewritten, it allows for improvisation. The avatar reacts in real time both to the artist and the audience. Peter’s facial expressions, sound and visual scenography—all are live-controlled by Yatziv, making each performance entirely unique.
Peter Is Back is a fragile, unpredictable mirror—reflecting our emotions, questions, and fears about a future in which humanity becomes a project open to transformation. It offers a deep look into artificial intelligence—and into ourselves.
