Perfomace in KAF: Deep Inside | perfomance Ani Nowak
Saturday, 06.12.2025 | 7pm

Deep Inside is a performance by Ania Nowak that plunges into the theme of ecstasy — divine, bodily, and communal. The artist intertwines the energy of house music with Baroque poetry and religious iconography, creating an intense, multi-layered experience.

In Deep Inside Ania Nowak looks at ecstasy. She juxtaposes house music and its lyrics with Baroque poetry and sculpturesque depictions of divine ecstasy. Visual references to Jan Lorenzo Bernini’s Blessed Ludovica Albertoni overlap with language of desire and longing for God, the lover and the community building energy of house music. Nowak uses repetition, rhythm and content of both house music and Baroque poetry to search for collective body and soul in times of social divisions and military conflicts. She listens to voices that drove house rhythms to summon many long forgotten black singers, often marginalised due to their gender and race. Nowak speaks with the ghosts of those voices, honouring them as leaders and partners. For memory and ecstasy.

Ania Nowak approaches vulnerability and desire as ways towards reimagining what bodies and language can and cannot do. Nowak develops formats such as live and video performance, installation and text. In her practice Ania engages with bodies in their nonlinear feeling and thinking capacity to tackle the difficulties of companionship and care in times of perpetual crisis. Her work attempts to reimagine the notions of disorder, pleasure, disease, intimacy, pain, sexuality, class and accessibility as sites of binary free living. Nowak collaborates with alternative educational programs in Europe, such as Kem School in Warsaw. Ania’s works have been presented at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Berlinische Galerie, Sophiensaele, Akademie der Künste, KW, Berlin; Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki; Salzburger Kunstverein; La Casa Encendida, Madrid; 14th Baltic Triennial at CAC Vilnius and 12th Gothenburg Biennial, a.o. She held solo shows at the Museum of Modern Art, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw; Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin and Arts Santa Mònica, Barcelona. Nowak lives and works in Berlin.
