Jeno odmień czas kaleki,
zakryj groby płaszczem rzeki,
zetrzyj z włosów pył bitewny,
tych lat gniewnych czarny pył.
— Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, Niebo złote ci otworzę…
Dust / Pył is a film program about war and its consequences: the disintegration of everyday life, homes, cities, memory, and relationships. Facts and images are consumed by destruction, smoke, and black dust.
The screening opens with I Died in Irpin — a stop-motion animation drawn in charcoal on paper by Anastasiia Falileieva, a deeply personal record of experiencing the war in Ukraine. We then move to Palestine, where child narrators recount growing up in the shadow of violence (Four Wars Old, 2021) and the daily struggle for survival in a world reduced to rubble (Gales from Gaza, 2024).
The program concludes with a metaphorical animation from China, depicting the fog of indifference and the collective mechanisms of denying the suffering happening right beside us. The white fog, the opposite of black dust, allows life to go on as if nothing had ever happened.
Dust / Pył is a journey through the landscapes of war and memory — from real ruins to metaphorical images of forgetting.
