13.07–11.11.2024
On Monday, November 11, 2024, the gallery will be open from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
After a brief hiatus due to the situation in Lower Silesia, we are back with great news for visitors. In partnership with the American Film Festival, the exhibition “Wojciech Fangor. American Dream” has been extended for an additional three weeks. Those wishing to see nearly 50 of the famous op-art works by one of Poland’s most important artists have time until November 11th. On October 4th and 5th, an independent gallery from Wrocław invites you to accompanying events for the 20th International Short Story Festival.
The “Wojciech Fangor. American Dream” exhibition, curated by Dorota Monkiewicz and designed by Robert Rumas, offers an immersive journey through the most prolific period of one of Poland’s most significant artists of the last century. This is a rare opportunity to see the famous swirling circles and psychedelic waves, not as individual artworks scattered across Polish collections, but gathered in one place. The exhibition features 48 objects arranged in the gallery space to give visitors the chance to experience what the artist called “positive illusory space.” Most of the works have been loaned from private collections, both Polish and international. The exhibition was made possible with the support of the DESA Unicum auction house and the Fangor Foundation, who helped secure the artworks, maintain relationships with collectors, and provide expert advice for the project.
Op-Art Odyssey
The Wojciech Fangor. American Dream exhibition is not only a great celebration for connoisseurs but above all an invitation for visitors to immerse themselves in the world of truly hypnotic art. For those who wish to deepen their understanding of Wojciech Fangor’s work, guided tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 PM. On October 9th and 20th, visitors have the chance to join a curatorial tour, and on October 10th, a discussion around the exhibition catalog, hosted by Aleksander Hudzik, will take place with curator Dorota Monkiewicz and the Artistic Director of the Short Story Festival, Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało.
Not just an exhibition – Accompanying Event Program
But that’s not all. We also invite you to the 20th International Short Story Festival, which this year, just before the U.S. elections, will critically explore both new and old mythologies. The festival’s main events – literary presentations, concerts, meetings, debates, weird fiction workshops, and performances – will be held on October 4th and 5th. The first day will conclude with a reading of stories inspired by Wojciech Fangor’s paintings, along with a one-poem competition.
Krupa Art Foundation – A Space for Art
Krupa Art Foundation, founded by Sylwia and Piotr Krupa, is an independent institution promoting contemporary art. Thanks to private patronage, the Foundation runs an extensive program supporting artists, especially young creators, through funding, exhibitions, and competitions such as the KAF Young Art Prize. The Foundation also engages the business world in art promotion, integrating creativity into corporate spaces. The KAF headquarters, located in the heart of Wrocław’s Rynek, is not only home to one of the best collections of 20th and 21st-century art in Poland but also serves as a venue for temporary exhibitions, education, and events. The Foundation, believing in Wrocław’s potential as a European capital of culture, aims to support this social capital.
The exhibition “Wojciech Fangor. American Dream” will be on view until November 11th at Rynek 27/28, Wrocław.
